Pala House
PIEDMONT, CA ~
Extensive Changes
A modest home in Piedmont, the owners wanted to remove the interior walls of much of the main floor in order to make a larger kitchen that looked out to the South and the garden. Although there was generous sunlight that poured into the new space, the view wasn't too interesting. Making a ribbon of windows with small lites effectively veiled the view and brought the focus to the southern light and interior detailing.
The living and dining rooms had been previously remodeled. Windows had been poorly replaced or covered over by sheetrock. The fireplace had been refinished awkwardly. In these rooms we worked to remove poorly installed work and added new trim throughout to give the house the character suitable to its vintage.
Completed in 1999.
