Scofield House

MORAGA, CA ~
Extensive Changes

This house is in a semi-rural community which enjoys warm evenings much of the year. The family wanted to add a room to the house that allowed for cooking and entertaining in one space as well as easy inside-outside living. This was to be in addition to a modest dining room and living room. With teenage children and a large extended family, they easily had 15 people over most evenings.

The existing house, with an L-shaped plan, was enlarged by adding a vaulted wing. This addition made the house have a central court which, because of the temperate climate, became the primary dining and circulating space.

Completed 1997.
